“The Goodness Inside of Us”

I want to share another word from the movie Power Rangers. Yes, you read it right, from a sci-fi movie. You may think about this article as lame, which topic came from superheroes and sci-fi, etc. For some, it may sound ridiculous. Like, "oh no, he is discussing something from a movie. What is he thinking?"
However, if you look beyond the special effects and action scenes, you will see such values and character. You will see the act of courage, the importance of friendship, trust, teamwork, and being responsible.
Anyway, let's get started.
……….
The quote I want to share was said by Jason Scott (Red Ranger). In his conversation with Kimberly, he stated, "you did an awful thing that doesn't make you an awful person. Just be the person you wanna be."
In connection to that, a Swiss philosopher who lived during 1712 – 1778, named Jean-Jacques Rousseau, believed that humans in the state of nature are naturally good. According to Rousseau, bad habits or deeds committed by humans are only caused by the corrupting civilization or the society they belong to. Thus, a human being can act as he pleases, for a person has the freedom and natural rights as his very essence of human existence (Agdalpen et al., 2011, p. 140).
This matter is clearly implied that we are capable of doing something out of our own free will. We could do good, as well as bad things. The bad things we have done in our life could be triggered by the people around us pushing us to the edge of our temper. It doesn't mean that the person inside your physical body is evil.
There are times that we are forced to do things we do not want to. There are times that we are forced to do things we do not want to. Something that we have done out of anger, hatred, and madness. So bad it left a mark on us. Making it one of the things that define who we are.
Different circumstances or situations made us bring out a part of ourselves that we do not know that we have inside. These actions ravage the good personality we have. After that moment, people will see you differently. Sometimes, even the closest person you expected to know you better than anyone else will do so. At some point, you will look in the mirror seeing a different person.
Despite the bad things that you did or you have done in your life, you are still a person with goodness—we all are.
You can always do something to reconcile for what you did—making it right as it is supposed to be, and you have all the chances you need to do that.
We cannot uncry the tears of the people we hurt. We can't unsay the sharpest words that we said, we can't unfeel the pain we caused, and we can't rewind the time and undo what's already done, no matter how we wanted. But there's always a way to make it right.
You can still fix it by facing your mistakes or the wrong things you did, not running from it. Running away from what you did can only make things worse. Accept what's already said and done. Forgive yourself and focus on making things right—show everyone that you are sincere in making things right.
The great thing about mistakes is that everyone makes them (Reach Out, n.d.). Not only have you, not only me, even the most prominent person in the world, probably made one. Even heroes also do. According to an article from Reach Out (n.d.), a person must face the wrong thing they did head-on and be responsible for what happened. Accepting your fault is the first step to moving forward. The important thing is we are learning the lessons out of our mistakes and trying to do better next time around.
Maybe, what you did doesn't justify the means, but there is a reason behind every action only you can understand. The reason may or may not be actually right or just, but it doesn't mean that you are evil as an individual whole. Do not let it define you for too long. The most significant thing in these instances is accepting what happened, move forward, and stop beating yourself up over it. Don't let it manifests in yourself. You can always turn things around—you can make it right.
When you did an awful thing, keep in mind that it does not define who you are as a person. That's not how it works. You are not what you did. Try not to jump to conclusions about your worth or value. No one is perfect, and that is okay. You can always be the person you want to be—the good one and the better one.
Even the worst person can change. They also have goodness buried deep inside of them that takes a positive person with a good heart to see. If they can do well and be good, so are you. We all can. Don't let the bad things you did, destroy you—your personality, character, and all the best qualities and goodness you naturally have.
Always remember that you've only done an awful thing, and that doesn't mean that you are the worst person—you can make it on the right track.
You can be the person you wanna be...a great person—just believe in yourself. There are more good things in each one of us, more than what we can think of.
"Sometimes, the bad things that we did in our lives put us directly on the road to the best learnings that we needed most.”
